
Dr. Geofrey Musinguzi, Coordinator of the SPICES Uganda project on 20th August 2020 handed over face-masks, a temperature gun to the leadership of Misindye-Goma HCIII in Mukono District to support the facility deal with COVID-19. At the same occasion, he handed over aprons with Information, Education and Communication (IEC) messages about cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).
SPICES Uganda which is housed at the Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) is a member of the “SPICES” consortium funded by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 research and innovation action. SPICES is an acronym that stands for Scaling -up Packages for Interventions for Cardiovascular diseases prevention in selected sites in Europe and sub-Saharan Africa.
The project is currently being implemented in 12 and 8 purposively selected parishes in Mukono and Buikwe districts respectively. Goma Health Centre III is one of the successful facilities that are benefiting from the intervention to assess the risk levels for CVDs.
The project has supported health facilities with a comprehensive intervention package including Blood Pressure (BP) monitoring machines, weighing scales, computers and training health workers to deal with CVDs.
