Fellow Makerereans and all our Stakeholders.
This afternoon, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda who is also Visitor Makerere University, Gen. Dr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has ordered the closure of all Schools, Universities and Tertiary Institutions for a period of one month. This was necessary because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This move is to help stem the spread of the virus and to save lives. Makerere University welcomes this move.
As required by law, the Chairperson of Council will tomorrow, Thursday 19th March, 2020 sign an instrument closing the University by midday on Friday 20th March, 2020.
This is to call upon all the stakeholders and the university community to stay calm and implement the Presidential Directive. The University will close by midday on Friday, which means that all students should vacate the University premises accordingly.
Following President @KagutaMuseveni’s directive on closure of universities and schools, here is my message to Staff, Students and other stakeholders. pic.twitter.com/xDQgeKB1z7
